An Post is a large commercial company that offers a variety of services, including postal, distribution, and financial services. It employs over 9,600 people directly through its national network of retail, processing, and delivery points, making it one of Ireland's largest companies. It serves government departments, the National Treasury Management Agency, the An Post National Lottery Company, and a variety of other commercial entities as an agency. An Post is still one of Ireland's largest employers in 2020, but it has been significantly reduced. Munster's only sorting centre in Little Island, Cork, will close in 2020. Individual branch closures in rural areas have become a major political issue. For the first time in eight years, An Post made a profit across the board in 2014. There were approximately 1,100 An Post offices and over 100 postal agents across the Republic of Ireland as of 2018.An Post established An Post Transaction Services, or PostTS, in 2003 to manage its post office and transaction services business. With a new white-and-red logo, it rebranded its post office network as "Post Office" or "Oifig an Phoist," and partnered with Allied Irish Banks to offer banking services. This was in response to the introduction of a service that allowed newsagents to perform some Post Office functions. This service, called PostPoint, was founded in 2000 to sell Eircell subscribers over-the-counter mobile phone top-ups.
Parcel Tracker provides tracking both for international postal services (delivery services run by countries) and for couriers (private companies such as UPS and FedEx).
