The Deutsche Post AG, formerly known as the Deutsche Post DHL Group, is a German international package transportation and supply chain management firm based in Bonn. It is one of the largest courier firms in the world. In Germany, the postal division delivers 61 million letters every day, making it the largest of its kind in Europe. DHL's parcel division is a completely owned subsidiary with a presence in over 220 countries and territories, according to the company. The Deutsche Post is the successor to Deutsche Bundespost, Germany's postal administration, which was privatized in 1995 and became a completely independent company in 2000. Deutsche Post has greatly extended its business area through acquisitions since its privatization. The company bought StreetScooter GmbH, a small electric vehicle manufacturer, in late 2014. Two years later, the company paid US$315.5 million (£243 million) for UK Mail, a business-focused postal service in the United Kingdom. The old company was absorbed into the European parcel network of Deutsche Post.The EBIT of the Deutsche Post DHL Group in 2016 was €3.491 billion (up 44.8 percent from 2015), with a net profit of €2.64 billion on revenue of €57.334 billion. Before taxes, the return on equity was 27.7%. According to Fitch, the group's long-term credit rating was BBB+ with a Stable outlook in November 2016. Deutsche Post AG is part of the Euro Stoxx 50 stock market index and is listed on the Börse Frankfurt (Frankfurt Stock Exchange) as DPW. In 2016, the state-owned KfW bank controlled 20.5 percent of the group's shares; 79.5 percent were freely floating, with 65.6 percent held by institutional investors and 10.8 percent by private investors.
